Audition Dates, Locations and Details

Please read through the audition process below.

Audition Method

1) Audition with the Training Program in San Francisco

The audition consists of a ballet class with current Training Program students and one of our esteemed faculty members. Please email training-program@linesballet.org or call 415-863-3040 x244 to schedule your audition class. Please review our Audition Registration page for further details.

2) On the Audition Tour

The audition consists of an abbreviated ballet class, Repertoire, and concludes with an improvisational component. Please come ready to dance. Although pointe work is generally not requested, ladies should bring pointe shoes. There is no dress code at the LINES Ballet Summer Program, but please wear form-fitting dancewear and style hair neatly away from your face. Most students wear a leotard and tights or shorts, but there is no restriction on color or style. Please see more on our Audition Registration page.

There is no dress code for the Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program, however you must wear form-fitting dance or athletic wear and style your hair neatly away from your face and neck. Students typically wear a leotard with tights and/or shorts but there is no restriction on color or style. Ballet slippers are required for class.

Requirements

Candidates must be 17 years of age at the time of the audition in order to be considered for the Training Program.

Required Audition Materials Regardless which audition method is chosen, all prospective students must submit the following materials:

    1. Headshot (4x6, jpeg): Please write full name, date of birth and age on the back and bring a copy to your audition (no other materials required).
    2. Letter of Intent (Word/PDF): One page maximum describing your aspirations and intentions as an artist and why you believe the Training Program can help you achieve these goals.
    3. Dance Resume (Word/PDF): One page maximum. Please include your full contact information at the top of the page.
    4. Contemporary solo: All applicants must submit a current video link, two minutes in length, of contemporary or improvisational movement. No mailed hard-copies will be accepted.
    5. Audition Fee (credit card only, no refunds)
    6. Letter of Recommendation: At least one current dance teacher must send a letter supporting level of skill, dedication, character or any other relevant information. Please have teacher send this letter directly to training-program@linesballet.org or mail to:

After the Audition

Results of the audition are sent via email on a rolling basis. Candidates should expect to receive notification of their acceptance status within 2-4 weeks of their audition date.

Note: If you have not received an email within four weeks, please make sure to check all email addresses affiliated with your account and the junk mail folder of each for emails from training-program@linesballet.org. If you have still not received notification, then contact the Training Program Coordinator (training-program@linesballet.org). Please include the student’s full name, audition location and primary email provided at registration within the email.

We welcome Prospective students to visit our facilities and observe classes while the Training Program is in session. If interested please contact the Training Program Coordinator.

International Dancers

The Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program is not yet an accredited educational institution therefore we cannot provide visas for International students. Although the Training Program is designed as a two-year experience, we can only offer International students the opportunity to attend one year of the program as a cultural exchange. Though responsibility falls to the student to secure a visa, Training Program staff are available to advise and support you in the process. Please note: In order to qualify for a visa, you must have post-secondary training within the last year. More information can be found through International Arts & Artists.
