The Alonzo King LINES Ballet Training Program cultivates distinguished artists through a philosophy that fosters independent thinking, problem solving, and fearless exploration, reinforced by a solid technical foundation.
The Training Program is a rigorous two-year training experience for avid pre-professional dancers ages 17-24. Each year consists of 35 weeks, divided into two semesters. During this time, participants work with a world-class faculty that includes past and present Alonzo King LINES Ballet company members, renowned Bay Area artists, and notable guest artists from around the globe. Because the Training Program limits enrollment to 36 students, there is a high faculty-to-student ratio, allowing the faculty to invest in each student. This personal focus enables the students to grow as unique artists. Stylistically diverse choreographers, established and emerging, take students through a creative process. This artistic journey results in the construction of new works to be performed in various venues throughout the year. Each semester ends in celebratory performances, showcasing these talented dancers and collected works in one of San Francisco’s recognized theaters. Participants are also given the opportunity to express their individual voices by choreographing original pieces to be presented in informal showcase performances.
The Training Program promotes a disciplined work ethic and encourages personal depth and exploration, while pushing students beyond their preconceived limitations. The ultimate goal of the program is to develop strong, well-trained, and well-educated artists, who will realize and achieve their full potentials as they pursue professional careers.
"Creative intelligence is a part of mankind's makeup as are heart, brain and lungs." Alonzo King
